Humane Society Is Everything But Humane

I have had to revisit old stomping grounds this week and Stubby the cat and his colony has come up in the topic of conversation.  If you are not familiar with Stubby's Cat Colony and my animal activism please enter Stubby in the search bar at the top of this blog and you can read his history.  I am hoping to visit Stubby soon and visit my old neighborhood.  Here is a link to this picture and Stubby's story.  I am working with a friend to try to get my neighbors kittens inside out of the cold for the winter.  However, Stubby and his cat colony thrived due to their location and I am not going to get evicted or arrested over my neighbors negligence.  I was almost jailed February 18th this year for preventing my sister from shooting a neighbors cat in front of my young nieces!  A cat that my sister willingly admitted that she and her son Taran had fed in the summer!  You have to know that this stuff makes me crazy!  I am not the crazy one though.  The law that would allow her to murder a neighbors cat because she is a property owner is crazy.  Her feeding the cat, then deciding to kill it is crazy!   A organization that raises money to help cats, but then euthanizes them is crazy.  People blindly donating to these organizations without researching them first is crazy!  I am doing everything I can to help stray cats, and I just wish the world would get it's head out of it's ass and get off the cell phone and do a little activism.  End of rant!

Syd's Not Havin It!

My friend Sally dropped off a cat carrier so I can take the kittens to Cat Welfare when they have space for them.  In no time at all Syd took up residence on top of the carrier just to say "hey no kitties are going in or comin out of here without my approval"!  They didn't have space this morning at the shelter, so I am going to try some other avenues.  Maybe I will post some pictures on Stubby's Cat Colony on Facebook and see if something shakes loose over there.  It seems like I always have my hand in on the cat overpopulation problem...even when I try to stay out of it.

Stubby And His Woman

I started making a pile of stuff for the thrift store and put it out on the porch.  This is Stubby and the mother of his two offspring.  I am all out except Lori's possessions.  I will be leaving at the crack of dawn.  Utilities scheduled for turn off tomorrow morning, so hopefully the folks setting Lori's things to the curb will bring flashlights and of course a locksmith as I won't be around till later in the day to sort through the metal for my scrap guy.  I am packing this computer the night before as it has the pictures of the apartment as I am leaving it, for court.

Now there are six morning cats

Six cats show up every morning now days.  This little gray and white girl is Stubby's girl.  She had 3 kittens by him before I could get him to the vet!  They have stub tails like his but they have her fur.  She belongs to the neighbors on the corner, but I think she likes the morning chow and occasional treats.  Lori tried to spin a story that I was going to harm her cats.  They were my cats as well as hers for 7 years.  I took care of them when she was at work.  She left them with me when she moved out to her mothers house.  Her cats were not welcome out at her mothers house.  I loved those cats and I freely admit that I dropped off cat treats and a new brush for them this spring as I had missed them through the winter and I missed brushing them, so I gave her a brush that was not made in China and natural bristle.  I visited them through the back gate whenever I was over there.  It was never when she was home and I never entered the yard...Yet behind my back, she has told my friends and police that I am stalking her, and leaving things on her porch.  I left things on Lori's porch that belonged to her that I have finally replaced, when I had business in Clintonville.  It wasn't often, and I always called and left a message about it on her phone.  I didn't want the items to get stolen or rained on.  She should be ashamed of herself for turning my kindness and love of her cats (that used to be our cats) into this heinous document for the purpose of avoiding responsibility for the phone bill and harming me.  It turns out she hadn't paid the phone bill since June last year.  I didn't decide to move until July 3rd, and didn't move until mid August so the bill was a month old by then and 6 months old when it went to collections.  She has damaged my credit and turned some of my friends against me, and tried to get me arrested.  She has colluded with the landlord to have me evicted.  Lori's last two girlfriends cleaned out her bank account and cheated on her while she was at work....so I guess I understand where she learned the behavior.  Lori never once told me not to email her, or call her, or leave her belongings on her porch.  But that is what the police report claims!  (Now that, Bonie B. is slander and is libel.)  In case you are reading this, you needed to understand the difference, and possibly see a good example.  It just makes me sad.  It is a very horrible thing to do to repay 7 years of love, loyalty and kindness.

 I have 6 visiting cats in addition to Syd these days.  But not a day goes by that I don't think about Lori's cats (our cats).  I am saddened by her behavior as I only ever loved and supported them all through tough times and good times.  The day after Lori's X threatened to poison my cats on a Facebook message, none of the colony showed up for breakfast.  They have shown up faithfully every day since the first day I moved in, so I was grief stricken and frightened.  I thought this waco x girlfriend or my landlord who doesn't like cats, and doesn't approve of mine had done something to them.  Thankfully they all returned the next day without incident.  I missed them and looked for them all day that day.

Post script:  I just got an official document from the court saying that Lori's petition for the civil stalking or sexually oriented offense has been dismissed.  They were ready to hear her evidence and she didn't show up.  I was not informed of the hearing, otherwise I would have shown up to defend myself. 

Stubby's Tale

I learned from Facebook (of all places) that Stubby The Cat is an American Bobtail.  Stubby managed to have offspring in spite of my efforts to get him to the vet.  Stubby is still here for his morning bowl of cat chow.  Then he goes next door to Frijolito Farm to dine on tuna oatmeal delux.  Stubby is my part time cat. For those of you who have been following this blog for awhile and looking after Stubby's welfare your donations saved him.  He seems to thrive even with a broken off canine.  I have been searching for a new place to live since May 1st and only the log cabin was suitable to take Stubby, as Stubby must remain an outside cat.  Stubby learned to spray before I could get him neutered.  Unfortunately, even after his operation he can happily mark all his territories.  Yesterday I got word from the City Attorney that I have grounds for a lawsuit in regard to the money and damage to my equipment I have lost here since last September when I moved in.  So my move will be delayed until some legal hitches are worked out.  For now Stubby and his colony are safe under my protection.  On another note, I will be earning some extra income from ads on this blog.  Tell me what you think dear readers, I can't figure out what the pin in the map ad for today or yesterdays relevance to my content is.  Maybe you can enlighten me.

Stubby's Offspring

Stubby the cat has fathered at least 2 kittens.  I tried to get him to the vet before this happened but was delayed because of his broken off canine.There is little question that these half grown kittens are Stubby's.  They have tails that are bobbed just like his.  It is not certain that I get to take Stubby with me when I move.  I will do what I can to see that his offspring are nuetered.  If you can contribute to this project please consider the donate button at the top right hand side of this blog.  I would be going to Rascal Unit.

Rubio The Cat

Rubio is part of Stubby The Cat's colony. He is a hansome sweet boy (neutered male). Today he helped me water my plants. He looks so small in relation to my pepper plant. I grew these peppers from seed starting in March, transplanting them in April and they are ripe and ready to eat this week. The cats are well, and find cool places to sleep during this heat wave. We enjoy our mornings watering plants, hanging up laundry, and filling the containers from the rain barrel to take to the community gardens. They romp around and fight for my attention. I noticed today the water pressure is almost gone in my rain barrel. I think that means we need some rain to refill the barrel. It is either that or the gutter is clogged again. It takes about 15 minutes of a downpour to fill up a 55 gallon rain barrel.

Stubby's Progress

Many of you have asked about Stubby the cat. Stubby is healing rapidly from his surgery and ailments. Stubby is a sort of guardian of this property and I confess I am gonna miss him when I move. He greets me each time I return from an errand no matter how long or brief I am gone. He does his best to try to keep cats that do not belong here off the property. Even though I was going to purchase flea medication (Frontline) this month, I am holding off as I have not seen even one flea on him or any of the other cats. My neighbor feeds the cats a oatmeal tuna combo and I am thinking a spoonful of brewers yeast might be in the mix. At any rate, they all seem happy and healthy. I do have a Stubby the cat donate button on my blog. But right now we have everything we need.

Sometimes it is time to do the "changing of the guard". I appreciate everyone who donated to Stubby's surgery. I also appreciate that it is time to start looking at new ideas....new goals. The old tool needs to be retired and the new tool needs to be forefront. Thank you everyone who has helped Stubby get back to health. I could not have done it without all your help.

Stubby's Healthcare Fund

Stubby is scheduled with rascalunit.com to have his broken off canine extracted on March 31st. I have $10 towards that operation and a call into rascalunit to get a clearer idea of the total. On their webpage they leave it to after an exam the cost will be determined. They had quoted me a price prior to his neuter that was counting the anesthesia from his neutering. He will need to be anesthetized again as I could not raise the additional $78 at the time. If I can't raise the money then I will have to cancel till a later date. Even though Stubby in neutered, he feels that he must guard his territory as shown here running off the newest stray. Please donate if you can. Update: I just got a phone call from Rascalunit and his surgery with anesthesia is gonna be $35. I have 2 $10 donations already and so I only need $15. Can anybody cover the rest? I won't have my monthly check till the 1st, so I won't be able to cover the difference in time for his appointment. Please help if you can. And thank you everyone who has helped out so far!

My New Feral Friend

This guy showed up a few days ago. I think he was left behind in a foreclosure or eviction situation. He has burrs and my semi feral cats run him off from the food bowl. I would like to catch him and remove the burrs but he doesn't trust me yet. I am still working on raising money for Stubby the cat. I don't know how many cats I am feeding every day. But I will continue as long as I am able. I have a knack with them. The donate button is at the top right of this blog. Thank you Frijolito farm for setting up the account for Stubby. If I raise enough money for Stubby the cat's tooth extraction, then I will work on raising money for Frontline. I will need lots of doses. I am also trying to procure some basic grooming tools. I want to start grooming my semi feral cats and treating their ear mites.

Stubby Has His First $10

Stubby has $10 towards his tooth extraction that is scheduled for March 31st. His health is improving. Many thanks to SOS who donated the antibiotic for his eye infection. The infection is nearly gone. Thank you to everyone who helped get him neutered and his rabies shot. If I don't raise the rest of the money by the 30th I will cancel his appointment with the intention of scheduling it at a later date. If I raise more than his surgery costs, I will purchase Frontline in anticipation of flea season. I would also be looking for any cat grooming supplies that you may have around that are not being used. There are a couple of cats that have shown up recently that need grooming if I can get a hold of them. Treating Ear Mites

When I dropped Stubby off at SOS, I authorized a rabies shot for an additional $6. They called me when he was waking up and told me he had ear mites. I did not authorize an ear mite injection as I reasoned that if Stubby had ear mites all the cats who interact with him have them. I don't throw money away, particularly money that has been generously donated. I am hoping to medicate all of them as I can catch them and using mineral oil in the syringe that I use to administer Stubby's antibiotic for his eye infection. He was pretty infected and infested when i took him in. Today he is noticeably better. I won't say he likes his antibiotic or the ritual we go through for me to get it into him; but he hangs out now all day long and accompanies me wherever I go. We have bonded. I am still hoping to raise the money to get his broken off canine extracted. Please donated to Stubby's Surgery located at the top right of this blog. Thank you in behalf of all the kitties who live outside here. I will be trying to score some Frontline soon. My neighbor Mayda gives the outside cats garlic, so fleas might not be an issue this year, but I want to be prepared. Syd will certainly get them and bring them into the house. It is just something that happens in the cycle of a cats life.

Stubby's Broken Tooth

I am leaving the donation button up for Stubby's operation even though his neutering is taken care of and he is healing up nicely. The first Veterinarian to look at Stubby, would not perform the operation because she found a broken off canine and she thought it best to only anesthetize him once and get both his neutering and tooth extraction done at the same time. Of course the spay and neuter clinic didn't do dental, and I didn't have the additional funds to take him anywhere else that day so I had to bring him home and release him till I could find someone who would do the neuter without the tooth extraction which I did delaying everything a week.
This is not a picture of Stubby's broken off canine. I could not hold his mouth open and snap a picture for you. This is pretty close to what his broken off tooth looks like though. Notice you can see the root? I have noticed that he doesn't join in to eat the crunchy cat food with all the rest of the cats in the morning, but rather he hangs back till they are finished eating. I think it might hurt him a little, although Stubby never complains. I have been trying to give him some soft chicken donated by Frijolito Farm whenever I can. I have some antibiotic that SOS donated to his cause for his eye infection. He also has ear mites that I will be trying to treat with mineral oil as soon as he gets his antibiotic treatments out of the way and I can get the right treatment. I believe I should treat all the cats for ear mites, rather than just Stubby.
Thank you for your generous donations of cat food this week and for your donations for his neuter. I don't guess I will have to buy cat food till Summer. I still have an appointment for Stubby for March 31st with rascalunit.org. I was shy $78, so I had to go with SOS for his neuter. If I can raise the additional funds for Stubby, I will go ahead and use the appointment. So please if you can, use the donate button at the right top area of this blog to help Stubby get back to purrfect health. Please note that the $78 was for the dental extraction but it was minus the fee for anesthetizing him as they were going to do the neuter at the same time. I believe I need to raise $96 for him as they will need to add anesthesia into his bill. I will call them tomorrow morning and find out the exact cost. I have almost 2 weeks to raise the funds. Please help if you can.

Stubby's Recovery

Stubby is back home now and recovering from his operation. The Vet's at SOS gave him a free 3 week dose (twice a day) of antibiotic for his eye infection. They wanted to treat him for ear mites at additional cost. I declined as I determined that if he has ear mites all of the rest of the outside cats have them as well. So a friend of mine (who I gave my copy of The Natural Cat) is bringing that to me as she has no cats at the moment; and I apparently have many! I remember that Anitra Frazier has a remedy in The Natural Cat about ear mites. Flea season is coming. I am going to leave the donation button up for Stubby and the rest of the outside cats. I need to fund his dental problem and I will need to address this ear mite situation. As always I am open to ideas that would be financially feasible. I took this photo of Stubby after his release from the undersized crate that he was confined in. They had wanted me to keep him confined for another 12 hours as he might be under the influence. They wanted me to keep him indoors which would have exposed my indoor cat to his contagion. Syd doesn't have ear mites yet, or an eye infection. I just couldn't do it. I set Stubby free the minute we got home from his operation. He immediately took up residence by the food bowl. You can see his bobbed tail in this photo. He got some stewed chicken not pictured here! He is recovering and I am going to get some help in administering his antibiotic for his eye problem tomorrow as my injured hand can not operate a syringe.

Neighborhood Diner

I am greeted each morning by no less than 5 kitty cats who want a morning snack.
And sometimes they have company. Thanks Dave from freecycle for donating a bag of cat food for the cause. Stubby The Cat is scheduled for surgery this morning. Thank you to everyone who donated to his surgery. I will try to get his tooth fixed later.

Stubby's Appointment

Stubby goes in for his operation tomorrow. Unfortunately, I was not able to raise the $78 to get his broken canine extracted while he is anesthetized. Thank you everyone who helped me raise the money for his neuter. Maybe in the future I will be able to take care of his tooth.

Necessary Surgery

This is an ad that my neighbor put together for me as I have inherited Stubby the cat who needs this necessary surgery. Please help out if you can. I think he will live longer if he is altered. He is getting beat up quite often in his pursuit of love. When my neighbors move, I think Stubby will probably stay around here. What can I say? I am a Leo. This property is definitely Leo land.
