Last year my youngest sister grew her first garden, and canned for the first time. I don't think there is anything more powerful and empowering than to grow your own food and make your own stuff. She will be planting an even bigger garden this year and preparing to can an even larger amount of the fruits of her labor. There are other ways to preserve food and I believe it may be time to start learning them, if for no other reason than to pass them on to someone like my sister. Here is a website I am using to learn about preservation of food. I didn't have a symbol for food preservation...so the logo for Food Not Bombs is something to ponder.
