McCain and Obama on Gun Control

Blogroll Me!
I wish Obama and McCain would have the debate. They do have some similar beliefs about gun control.

  1. Skymetalsmith,
I don't understand how you believe that Senators McCain and Obama have similar views on gun control. The video clips that you presented as evidence for your assertion discuss different subjects. Senator McCain is discussing the so called 'gun show loophole' that allows regular people to sell their guns to other regular people without running a background check on the buyers. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't know how to run a background check on someone.
Senator Obama is talking about some unnamed unscrupulous gun dealers dumping guns in the inner city to gang members who don't care what gun laws exist.
I don't trust Senator Obama. The day after the D.C. gun ban was struck down, he said that he supports the second amendment right of every american to own a firearm and to use it for self defense. But prior to the Supreme Court's decision, he said that he supported the D.C. handgun ban. To me, those two positions are diametrically opposed.
I don't trust Senator Obama to protect my rights to own a firearm and use it to protect myself and my family against criminals, because he has supported 1)a total ban on guns, 2)a ban on the sale or transfer of semi-automatic handguns, 3)a ban on 'right to carry' permits, 4)a ban on firearms kept in the home. I read that Senator Obama supported the lawsuits against gun manufacturers for crimes committed by criminals who used guns in the commission of those crimes. I've read that Senator Obama has supported the Chicago ban on handguns. I've read that Senator Obama has supported legislation to prohibit gun stores within 5 miles of any school, church or park (try finding any location in any city that fits within those limitations).
Senator Obama was on the board of Directors of the Joyce Foundation, an organization that funds gun bans.
I don't trust Senator Obama. Especially since he seems reluctant to discuss any of this in public. I submitted an email to Senator Obama's campaign website requesting clarification of his position on the second amendment. I received a one sentence response "Senator Obama supports the second amendment." That certainly isn't my idea of someone who is willing to discuss his ideas and positions.
    I don't trust Senator Obama.
I've not uncovered any evidence to indicate that Senator McCain has positions on gun control as radical as Senator Obama.

  2. And you still have not uncovered anything! More may be revealed. It is a good thing that no Presidential candidate has ever affected change in the gun laws. I would love to find some real meat to publish on the two of them because I believe the present government is planning on disarming America. So...for the first time in history a President may in fact be able to change second amendment. Hopefully the gun show law will be held off long enough for me to "stock up". Thanks for your comment.

  3. Skymetalsmith,
I'm with you. Sorry, I misunderstood your post, and assumed that you were advocating Sen Obama as a positive force.
I think that in addition to every home having at least one firearm for protection (preferably more), we should stock up on ammo. Just in case Sen Obama gets elected and implements his threats to tax ammo to the point where we can't afford to buy it. that's how he justifies his comments that he won't take our guns. Keep the faith.

  4. I have friends that don't think there will be an election...that Martial Law will be imposed before Elections. If that happens better hide your guns and ammo (close by) and for Gods sake don't register your guns no matter who is in office! I used to have a bumper sticker that said Charlton Heston is my President. But in reality I believe that if there is a list of folks who have guns, eventually they will come to take them. So the easiest thing is just not get on one of those lists.
