Swine Flu Humor
Even though the situation is bad in Mexico there is humor and a photo op. I snagged this photo from the BBC who seem to be responsibly reporting the truth about this virus.

A Glimmer Of Hope
Blogroll Me!
I found this article called A Glimmer Of Hope from The Economist.
I couldn't resist the picture and found out that indeed a fish like this exists in spite of my optimistic hope that it is just something out of nightmares.

What I Did For Earth Day
Blogroll Me!
Yesterday I helped trim a massive crab apple tree in the morning. In the afternoon after we got home, in the mailbox, I was sent some seeds from Pamela on LATOC.
So then we planted some seeds in our back yard that is mostly garden. It was a very busy Happy Earth Day! By next week the crab apple tree we trimmed should have blossums like these.

Home Invasions On The Rise
Blogroll Me!
Several years ago I lived in a building downtown Columbus that became an underworld after 5 PM. The day I moved in and was being shown around I inquired about 3 doors in splinters in the trash. I wondered what fate had happened to those doors. I know now that the guy that was the manager lied to me about what had happened to those doors. Not surprising, the man at the local firehouse also lied about the fire runs that occurred several times a day. I was asking all the right questions, but I was being lied to in the name of some business model that needed a tenant in that apartment.
In a two year period of time I was beaten and robbed 5 times in that apartment building, all in my own home. My naive well meaning friends asked why I opened my door. My door ended up in the trash just like the doors that I had seen on my tour on moving day. Home Invasion was the name of the game after 5 in my building. It didn't take long for it to happen to me. Home Invasion is on the rise. I am lucky to be blogging about it. Here is a link to a more updated story. I can honestly say that I should have armed myself and killed the thieves before they could beat me. They say hindsight is always twenty twenty vision. Prepare to defend yourself, your home, and your loved ones. I am looking for a bumper sticker that says I don't dial 911!

Don't Talk To Cops
Blogroll Me!
I have had few encounters with the police in my 50 years on this planet. And subsequently many lawyers have inquired if I had used my 5th Amendment right to remain silent. If I could do it all again I would take this mans advice. Pleading the 5th Amendment Right to remain silent could be the most important part of the Constitution.

Surviving Argentina
Blogroll Me!
I follow a web blog called Surviving Argentina and am very impressed with the material in the blog. After much delay, FERFAL has written a book. The United States seems headed in much the same direction that Argentina has taken. So it seems most important to seek counsel in someone who has already lived through collapse. It may seem reckless to recommend a book unseen, but I think I can safely recommend this book.

Sea Bandits, or Coast Guard?
Blogroll Me!
As more vessels are taken over by Somalia pirates this week, it becomes clear that the US is going to have to stop them. I think it is important to understand the other side of this story. Imagine if you saw ships invading your waters dumping waste and fishing without permit or permission. These guys believe they are like our Coast Guard. Here is an excerpt from New York Times last year.
In the eyes of the world, the pirates had been misunderstood. “We don’t consider ourselves sea bandits,” he said. “We consider sea bandits those who illegally fish in our seas and dump waste in our seas and carry weapons in our seas. We are simply patrolling our seas. Think of us like a coast guard.” Here is the link

Painted Rain Barrels Coming Soon!
Blogroll Me!
Our Rain Barrel business has started already even before the last snow (3 snows after forsythia). People are starting to think about gardens and catching the rain. This spring we will be able to offer painted rain barrels. Keep checking our website (got rain?). The rain barrel in this photo is not one of ours, it is one that was sold on eBay last year.

Rain Harvesting
Blogroll Me!
We are delivering the first of our rain barrels today. I can only imagine that people will want to start saving money any way they can as our economy collapses. Using rain water is a great way to save money. Even if you do not pay for water, rain barrels can be very handy during power outages as electric pumps will not work without electricity. Check out our website (got rain?) and start harvesting the rain and saving money today.

Monsanto is trying to make us eat dead food! Maybe Michele Obama planting an organic garden at the White House will give them pause. I don't think so though. Check out this video that explains the bill criminalizing organic farming being quietly slipped through Congress backed by Big Agribusiness. Plant a garden today, and write your congressperson.

Finally Finished
Blogroll Me!
We are finally finished with our painting and cleaning job and will have more time to devote to other projects and our other friends. The total job has lasted 17 months and involved sorting the contents of a house for resale. There will be some items for sale in the future. Keep checking this blog for vintage collectibles. I may devote a whole new blog to this sort of thing. We have helped liquidate two estates, and I feel we are pretty good at it even in this collapsing economy.

Blogger Shut Down By Phoenix Police
Blogroll Me!
I found a blog that is totally dedicated to exposing the corrupt police of Phoenix
Arizona.
http://badphoenixcops.blogspot.com/
I lived in a county that had corrupt cops. They still operate to this day. They make the good police officers look bad. They make the whole department look bad. Perhaps someone will see this blog and start blogging in all towns that have corrupt police. It does not surprise me that this bloggers computers were taken into custody. It also does not surprise me that the blogger continues to blog. Keep on Keepin On.

Homer Laughlin House Parking Lot
Blogroll Me!
I got an email yesterday from a man who is trying to upgrade a photo on Wikipedia of Homer Laughlin House that was in East Liverpool Ohio. The photo they are using now is a picture of a parking lot. This house was registered as a historic site! It is hard to go backwards in time...but totally possible with photography. It is also remorseful in this case. You gotta wonder what municipal wisdom was behind this action.
What a storybook tale about a good old fashioned brother team who won a pottery contest and used the contest money to buy two kilns and put their towns (E. Liverpool and later Newell) and company on the map.
How tragic it is to lose the Homer Laughlin House...to a parking lot.

Wahru's Party
Blogroll Me!
Last Saturday we had a party for my friend Wahru. It was secret so I could not blog about it ahead of time. Here is some video that captured Wahru's entrance. The drummers are members of MDOFE and Sistah Ngoma. Jazz Mary submitted this video as well as providing us with lively entertainment. Thanks Jazz Mary.
