No Such Thing

Blogroll Me! This was posted yesterday and I thought it worthy of a blog. I found this at a site called Common Dreams.org that was recommended to me by Facebook somehow....

I am a coal miner's great, great granddaughter. My grandpap Miller was killed in an Appalachian coal mine - and I am rising -- along with Appalachia Rising, a group in Washington, DC today to protest the devastating practice of mountaintop removal coal mining.

You've no doubt heard of "clean coal."

IS mountaintop removal coal mining clean when coal companies clear-cut the trees and blow up our ancient Appalachian mountains using the same explosives that Timothy McVey used to blow up the Federal building, turning an area the size of Delaware into desolate moonscape?

IS IT clean when coal companies dump their debris into 2,000 miles of sparkling, mountain streams that are the headwaters for much of the East coast drinking water?

IS IT clean when they put us in jail for our non-violent protests against one of the most devastating practices known to human kind?

IS IT clean when the coal companies like Massey Energy own and control every branch of government - legislative, executive and judicial -- and make all the rules?

IS IT clean when Appalachians must endure abject poverty, while the coal companies make billions in profits?

IS IT clean when mountaintop removal coal mining created far fewer jobs than would be created my building the infrastructure for clean, renewable, non-nuclear energy?

IS IT clean when mining regions get kidney disease, are eaten alive by cancer from fouled air and water, with coal mining regions enduring 578 more deaths per year than other regions of the country?

IS IT clean when elementary schools sit below multi-billion gallon slurry and coal ash pits that are prone to breakage?

IS IT clean when coal contributes almost half of the greenhouse gases driving the world's climate to the breaking point?

Goldman prizewinner and Appalachian resident Maria Gunnoe said: "Go to the most peaceful, beautiful place in the word that you can imagine. And then watch somebody drop a bomb on it." That's, basically what's happening with mountaintop removal coal mining.

On a recent episode of Climate Challenge, Debby Jarrell, Bo Webb, Chuck Nelson and Mickey McCoy, all long time residents of Appalachia, told of ancestral homes that have been destroyed by blasting. Gone are communities in Southern West Virginia, from Marshy Fork to Blair, from Lindy Town to Kayford and beyond into Eastern Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and Eastern Tennessee.

Destroy life, property, mountains, streams, families, communities and the planet to obtain a filthy fossil fuel. Burn it for electricity, releasing poisons and driving the climate to the breaking point. Contain the resulting sludge and toxic ash in billion gallon ponds, until they break. Call it clean. Get the President to call it clean. Add alliteration and a multi-million dollar PR campaign. Voila, you have clean coal.

From the mining, to the toxic waste storage, to the burning -- "clean coal" is a dirty joke that won't wash. Staking our energy future on so-called clean coal is wise -- in the same way that basing the entire U.S. economy on sub-prime housing loans was. Just stand back and watch it blow-up in your face like the exploding housing bubble did. Only this time humanity itself is at stake.

It is time for our politicians to listen to the people, our non-violent protests and genuine grassroots movement, and put an end to mountaintop removal coal mining. It is time to enforce the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts, protecting the lungs and the life-blood of the planet.

We must stop building and feeding coal-fired power plants, destroying our mountains and driving our climate to the breaking point and instead build a wind farm on Coal River Mountain, West Virginia. That is but a single example of ways that the Appalachian economy could be rebuilt on a renewable energy economy.

IT IS time to shout it from the Appalachian mountaintops, before they're gone: The miasma that is coal cannot be cleaned. We must trade mountaintop removal coal mining clean, renewable, non-nuclear energy, like wind, solar and geothermal -- now. We cannot continue business as usual even for a few more years, if we are to have any hope of reversing climate change.

Won't you join us?

Appalachia Rising Non-violent Action Schedule:

Your Web

Blogroll Me!A Poem I wrote about the giant basket in Licking County where I grew up.

YOUR WEB

Grandmother Weaver
what can you offer me
on your lacework
of emptiness? A job in a factory
...that devalues the
talent, ability, and integrity
of YOUR teaching? I have the quilt of
my grandmothers
They gathered...sewing
singing and weaving. I hear the echos
of their lost voices.
They are alive again...through me
I weave and spin....stories about them, and their lost looms.
I can turn straw into gold...
without selling my grandmothers land and soul.
I can weave metal strand over strand
trance like they did....their work through my hands.
Let The Giant's basket be a shrine....
to Brigid...his grandmother, and mine
Let us honor her.
She who spins backwards and forwards in time

All Done

Blogroll Me!
I am all done moving except moving Syd my cat. It is going to be tricky because once I get him here he is going to have to stay in the house for a few weeks. I only moved 3 miles from where he is now and it is almost certain he would try to make it back. I miss him and all the cats. I will continue to make space for him and try to prepare.

Don't Take Your Guns To Town

Blogroll Me!
I had another bon fire last night. I burned things that are no longer relevant. Here is a note my girlfriend left in my belongings when I went to New Orleans to help out with animal rescue during hurricane Katrina. She was trying to be funny. Anna (now deceased) ended up pulling that gun on me, got herself arrested and I ended up having to come home without her. I never did find out what happened to Anna's gun.

Just In Time

Blogroll Me!
I installed one of my rain barrels as the sky was darkening Friday. Water has been seeping in in that corner of my workshop. I believe that a rain barrel will slow it down some. A second rain barrel may stop it completely. Things are shaping up around here.

Broken Mirror

Blogroll Me!
I went to gather some more of my belongings today only to discover that the mirror that my partner snagged from the dumpster is now broken and in the pathway. I remember thinking the other day that I would have left that giant mirror in the dumpster as I would not want to chance breaking it. I broke a mirror once and I had at least 7 years bad luck. I had no idea there was/is a remedy. My partner doesn't really recognize such superstitions so I probably shouldn't say anything to her about the remedy. She was very mean yesterday when I was trying to help her. She is not receptive to any other ideas but her own It would probably be counterproductive to try to help her with this new development as I believe her problem is hoarding. That will probably generate much more than 7 years of bad luck.

The origin of the "break a mirror, face seven years of bad luck" superstition can be traced back to the Romans, who were the first to create glass mirrors. Just because your culture invents something totally useful like a mirror doesn't mean you can't still have some irrational beliefs about its use. The Romans, along with the Greek, Chinese, African and Indian cultures, believed that a mirror had the power to confiscate part of the user's soul. If the user's reflected image became distorted in any way, this could mean a corruption of his or her soul.

To make bad matters even worse, if the user should break a mirror it would mean his or her soul would be trapped inside the Bizarro world the mirror represented. Essentially, a broken mirror created a broken soul, which in turn lead to the broken health of the unfortunate user. The Romans also believed that a person's physical body renewed itself every seven years, so under that criteria it would take seven years before the user's soul would be fully restored. Up until then, life for a mirror breaker would be one long string of unfortunate events, since he or she no longer had a healthy soul to ward off spiritual evil-doers.

Fortunately, there are also a number of rituals which are said to counteract the very bad hair day created when you break a mirror. Since the pieces of the mirror can still reflect the corrupted soul, the entire mirror should be ground into dust. No reflection, no problem. It is also suggested that after you break a mirror, you should invest in a shovel and bury the pieces under a tree during a full moon. African slaves working in America believed the bad luck could be washed away by placing the pieces in a river flowing in a southerly direction.

Art Show

Blogroll Me!
My girlfriend has been working hard on this art show at Euro Classics Antique Furniture Store. It starts Saturday at noon. Supposedly it ends at 4:00 pm...but I have serious doubts about that!

Decay

Blogroll Me!
At the corner of Hudson and High Street here in Columbus Ohio, sits a building that is falling in on itself not ever being finished or generating income. It has been sitting in it's near finished and slowly deteriorating state for 6 years.
This is truly an example of an "eyesore"; and on real estate property that theoretically should have been generating a lot of income in the past 6 years.

Each and every time I have driven by this building I have wondered about it's original purpose. It sort of looks like apartments, and it sort of looks like office space. On the other side of the street is a small shopping area that used to be Papa Johns Pizza (moved to another location). Next to that, a tax place that is only open for a few months a year, and in the front of that a Blockbuster Video that is scheduled for a chapter 11 bankruptcy very soon and will inevitably close its doors. Very soon this block will look like a ghost town if some relevant business doesn't move in soon.
I think that places like this that are eroding before our eyes, are a sign of how things really are in spite of what spin the media would have us believe. It is a little premature to call the end of the recession before the collapse of commercial real estate comes into play. It is happening, has been happening...but the banks don't want this on their books so they are allowing these businesses to continue operating without paying rent. Soon the commercial real estate bubble will pop and the double dip recession will rear it's ugly head seemingly saying "I'm back"!

Orthotics

Blogroll Me!
Looks like I am finally going to get some relief with my spurs and Bunyans. Last year for whatever reason, my insurance would not cover orthotics. But this year it is a go. I have to wonder what permanent damage has been done to my feet in the interim that my insurance company has reversed this decision. It probably has something to do with ongoing costs. I am guessing orthotics are much cheaper than a wheelchair and the ongoing treatment. Three cheers for Molina

Before And After

Blogroll Me!
I have been setting up my workshop this week, along with just regular moving. Usually I enjoy setting up a workshop. But I was having trouble. I realized I needed to cover up this crawlspace as it was giving me the creeps. I kept imagining something being back in there that would reach out and pull me in. I was having so much difficulty that I had to stop moving stuff and take care of the problem. This is a little trick I learned from Shawshank Redemption. There I fixed it. All gone. I might even forget the heinous crawlspace is even there.

Fibromalgia

Blogroll Me!
For those of you who have wondered about what is ailing me these days. I finally saw a doctor and he is treating me as if I have Fibromalgia. It sure is cramping my style. I am having trouble getting around, and doing basic things. Hopefully there is some physical therapy in my future. In the meantime, I am still trying to move to my new place. I am about two truckloads from finishing. We have a drum performance tonight and I really need to focus on getting my big drum to the car and then to the student union at The Ohio State University. This task at this moment looks to be impossible. But the other day I moved my Great Grandmothers cauldron, so I know I am capable.

I AM SMALL FRY

Blogroll Me!
My computer seems to be reacting to my politics. I am voting a complete strait Democratic ticket this November....I wish I could know all the Judges who are running for offices political party affiliations....because I would vote every Republican (selfish sons of a bitches) Judge out of office.
I am deleting files as fast as they are being created. My camera won't download properly. I don't visit cyber spaces that would have viruses. I do speak my mind and politics boldly and without hesitation. The emperor still does not have a stitch of clothes on...and hasn't for quite some time now.
I will write my blogs at the library if I have to. What could I possibly blog about that would cause someone to try to shut me down? Oh....that's right Monsanto Corporation. Monsanto who plants genetically modified seeds everywhere and then sues the local hardworking farmer putting him out of business.
Hey....Powers that be MONSANTO is evil...I don't care what you say on NPR....they are evil! Oh and BLACKWATER. We should be ashamed of having this private security firm representing this country. No wonder the world hates us! Teaming up the evil Monsanto corporation with whatever name Blackwater has changed their name to this week is a very dangerous pairing. And you can just bet our public safety and welfare are not high on their priority list. Hopefully they have bigger fish to fry than my little blog with 4 followers.

Blackwater And Monsanto

I couldn't make this shit up! Here is some good tin foil....just to keep us on our toes and awake every night...all night long. Monsanto teaming up with Blackwater is a bit like Godzilla teaming up with King Kong. God save us all! Gotta love that graphic. I snaged this from The Nation.

Over the past several years, entities closely linked to the private security firm Blackwater have provided intelligence, training and security services to US and foreign governments as well as several multinational corporations, including Monsanto, Chevron, the Walt Disney Company, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and banking giants Deutsche Bank and Barclays, according to documents obtained by The Nation. Blackwater's work for corporations and government agencies was contracted using two companies owned by Blackwater's owner and founder, Erik Prince: Total Intelligence Solutions and the Terrorism Research Center (TRC). Prince is listed as the chairman of both companies in internal company documents, which show how the web of companies functions as a highly coordinated operation. Officials from Total Intelligence, TRC and Blackwater (which now calls itself Xe Services) did not respond to numerous requests for comment for this article.

The military's most elite, secretive force has started advertising for highly-sensitive positions on public jobs sites. Is this 'Preparing the Battlefield' 2.0?

There was a brief moment when it seemed the evidence of civilian killings, military cover ups and widespread lack of accountability contained in the WikiLeaks documents would spark a genuine inquiry into US conduct in Afghanistan.

One of the most incendiary details in the documents is that Blackwater, through Total Intelligence, sought to become the "intel arm" of Monsanto, offering to provide operatives to infiltrate activist groups organizing against the multinational biotech firm.

Governmental recipients of intelligence services and counterterrorism training from Prince's companies include the Kingdom of Jordan, the Canadian military and the Netherlands police, as well as several US military bases, including Fort Bragg, home of the elite Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), and Fort Huachuca, where military interrogators are trained, according to the documents. In addition, Blackwater worked through the companies for the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and the US European Command.

On September 3 the New York Times reported that Blackwater had "created a web of more than 30 shell companies or subsidiaries in part to obtain millions of dollars in American government contracts after the security company came under intense criticism for reckless conduct in Iraq." The documents obtained by The Nation reveal previously unreported details of several such companies and open a rare window into the sensitive intelligence and security operations Blackwater performs for a range of powerful corporations and government agencies. The new evidence also sheds light on the key roles of several former top CIA officials who went on to work for Blackwater.

The coordinator of Blackwater's covert CIA business, former CIA paramilitary officer Enrique "Ric" Prado, set up a global network of foreign operatives, offering their "deniability" as a "big plus" for potential Blackwater customers, according to company documents. The CIA has long used proxy forces to carry out extralegal actions or to shield US government involvement in unsavory operations from scrutiny. In some cases, these "deniable" foreign forces don't even know who they are working for. Prado and Prince built up a network of such foreigners while Blackwater was at the center of the CIA's assassination program, beginning in 2004. They trained special missions units at one of Prince's properties in Virginia with the intent of hunting terrorism suspects globally, often working with foreign operatives. A former senior CIA official said the benefit of using Blackwater's foreign operatives in CIA operations was that "you wouldn't want to have American fingerprints on it."

While the network was originally established for use in CIA operations, documents show that Prado viewed it as potentially valuable to other government agencies. In an e-mail in October 2007 with the subject line "Possible Opportunity in DEA—Read and Delete," Prado wrote to a Total Intelligence executive with a pitch for the Drug Enforcement Administration. That executive was an eighteen-year DEA veteran with extensive government connections who had recently joined the firm. Prado explained that Blackwater had developed "a rapidly growing, worldwide network of folks that can do everything from surveillance to ground truth to disruption operations." He added, "These are all foreign nationals (except for a few cases where US persons are the conduit but no longer 'play' on the street), so deniability is built in and should be a big plus."

The executive wrote back and suggested there "may be an interest" in those services. The executive suggested that "one of the best places to start may be the Special Operations Division, (SOD) which is located in Chantilly, VA," telling Prado the name of the special agent in charge. The SOD is a secretive joint command within the Justice Department, run by the DEA. It serves as the command-and-control center for some of the most sensitive counternarcotics and law enforcement operations conducted by federal forces. The executive also told Prado that US attachés in Mexico; Bogotá, Colombia; and Bangkok, Thailand, would potentially be interested in Prado's network. Whether this network was activated, and for what customers, cannot be confirmed. A former Blackwater employee who worked on the company's CIA program declined to comment on Prado's work for the company, citing its classified status.

In November 2007 officials from Prince's companies developed a pricing structure for security and intelligence services for private companies and wealthy individuals. One official wrote that Prado had the capacity to "develop infrastructures" and "conduct ground-truth and security activities." According to the pricing chart, potential customers could hire Prado and other Blackwater officials to operate in the United States and globally: in Latin America, North Africa, francophone countries, the Middle East, Europe, China, Russia, Japan, and Central and Southeast Asia. A four-man team headed by Prado for countersurveillance in the United States cost $33,600 weekly, while "safehouses" could be established for $250,000, plus operational costs. Identical services were offered globally. For $5,000 a day, clients could hire Prado or former senior CIA officials Cofer Black and Robert Richer for "representation" to national "decision-makers." Before joining Blackwater, Black, a twenty-eight-year CIA veteran, ran the agency's counterterrorism center, while Richer was the agency's deputy director of operations. (Neither Black nor Richer currently works for the company.)

As Blackwater became embroiled in controversy following the Nisour Square massacre, Prado set up his own company, Constellation Consulting Group (CCG), apparently taking some of Blackwater's covert CIA work with him, though he maintained close ties to his former employer. In an e-mail to a Total Intelligence executive in February 2008, Prado wrote that he "recently had major success in developing capabilities in Mali [Africa] that are of extreme interest to our major sponsor and which will soon launch a substantial effort via my small shop." He requested Total Intelligence's help in analyzing the "North Mali/Niger terrorist problem."

In October 2009 Blackwater executives faced a crisis when they could not account for their government-issued Secure Telephone Unit, which is used by the CIA, the National Security Agency and other military and intelligence services for secure communications. A flurry of e-mails were sent around as personnel from various Blackwater entities tried to locate the device. One former Blackwater official wrote that because he had left the company it was "not really my problem," while another declared, "I have no 'dog in this fight.'" Eventually, Prado stepped in, e-mailing the Blackwater officials to "pass my number" to the "OGA POC," meaning the Other Government Agency (parlance for CIA) Point of Contact.

What relationship Prado's CCG has with the CIA is not known. An early version of his company's website boasted that "CCG professionals have already conducted operations on five continents, and have proven their ability to meet the most demanding client needs" and that the company has the "ability to manage highly-classified contracts." CCG, the site said, "is uniquely positioned to deliver services that no other company can, and can deliver results in the most remote areas with little or no outside support." Among the services advertised were "Intelligence and Counter-Intelligence (human and electronic), Unconventional Military Operations, Counterdrug Operations, Aviation Services, Competitive Intelligence, Denied Area Access...and Paramilitary Training."

I Shall Be Released

Blogroll Me!
They say everything can be replaced
They say every distance is not near
So I remember every face
Of every man who put me here

I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now any day now
I shall be released

They say every man needs protection
They say every man must fall
so I swear I see my reflection
Somewhere inside these walls

I see my light come shining
From the west unto the east
Any day now any day now
I shall be released

yonder stands a man in this lonely crowd
man who swears he's not to blame
ALl day long I hear him hollering so loud
just crying out that he's not to blame

I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now any day now
I shall be relased

Day Light

Blogroll Me!
Here is a streetlight that I can see from my house. It never goes off. Not even during the day. I have to wonder how much it costs to keep that light on and if it is intentional. I also wonder how many such lights there are that never go off in the City Of Columbus. Let's just say it is not intentional and costs $1000 a year to stay on all the time. If there are 50 of them that go unchecked, it is a waste of $50,000 a year. I sure would like to have that sort of cash. Maybe the City of Columbus needs to turn off some lights when not in use, and save the tax payers a few dollars.

Intimidation

Blogroll Me!I have had a exhausting last couple days just worrying about my property. I ran these children (pictured) off my porch and yard two days ago. They live about 50 yards away. The next thing I know their dads friend brings them right up to the edge of my steps and starts throwing football with them. They must have told him I ran them off and he didn't like it, so he brought them right up to where I would see that he wasn't going to be run off. The chances of them hitting my mailbox or my car were pretty good but they were playing in the street. I let it ride because I want to get along with them...I just don't want them in my yard or walking into my unlocked house when I am at the foot of my steps. I have it on good authority that these children know no boundaries.

But today I saw 4 teenagers step into the woods for a few minutes and return with a backpack. I wouldn't have thought much about that except the leader told the kid with the backpack to take it back into the woods. He was gone about 45 seconds and then they disappeared up by the invasive neighbors house. I wondered why these boys were not in school and why they were all dressed in black and the obvious question about what was in the black backpack that had to be stashed in the woods.
I called my good neighbor who told me she thought they were looking for a dog. I knew they were not. So I tell her what I had observed and she tells me she is going to consult her husband. She calls me back and I see her husband go into the woods right where the boys had gone in. It turns out he is a former Columbus police officer. He comes back out shaking his head and says there is much more than the black back pack back in there. He calls the property owner and they come down and remove big screen TVs, computers, games, the black backpack and a water cooler bottle full of cash. They put that in the trunk of their car and they drive away presumably to call the police.
Not long after that a grey car pulls up even with my truck and I can't really see it because my tree and truck are hiding it. I hear two doors open and close and the car speeds away. I notice an adult is driving the car. I realize that adults are involved in the theft ring at this point. Not long after that a red car pulls up and 2 teenagers get out and go back into the woods while two adults sit in the car waiting for them. I call my good neighbor again and ask her if she can get the license plate number. My neighbors husband comes out again and yells up the license plate # to her and asks the boys and the car if they have lost something. They speed away, tires squealing and car smoking.
I wish I could say that was the end of it, but it wasn't and it probably is not over just yet as all the evidence is circumstantial.
Two more boys showed up on foot looking in the woods and swinging two sticks walking two and fro under my bay window. The neighbor with the children who had tried to intimidate me the day before; He ran up the street as if he was on a mission of some kind. I had to wonder if he is in all this. I have heard he is a thief and his children are thieves (which is why I don't want them in my yard). My good neighbors husband had gone back to his job after running off the thieves, so she and I had to tough it out till he could get back here.
We all thought it was over when he chased the second car away....but we were wrong. I called her to tell her they are back and she tells me they have been up on her porch knocking on her door, she has called her husband and needs to hang up, put the baby down and go get her side arm. She tells me if I hear gunshots to call the police. I continue to see them below me swing big sticks around in an aggressive manner. I know they have come back for their loot and they would have beat her if she let them in, and didn't defend herself. I know that with every fiber of my being. I survived a home invasion in 2002. I came out beaten within an inch of my life and my bank account emptied out, but alive and the cops were not ever able to nab those people, even though I told them exactly who they were.
The cops this time didn't show up till very late in the day to take my statement and I believe I can hear people in the woods tonight, along with their hip hop tunes playing too loud; if you don't want to be seen or heard you don't walk around playing loud music.
We are taking back our block and woods. We will not be intimidated.

The Burning Times

Blogroll Me!
I started burning old files that have to do with ritual abuse. I must have over 100 pounds of this "proof". I have moved this burden no less than 5 times and I am getting too old and arthritic to keep it up. Ritual abuse is alive and well in Licking County and I feel fortunate to have FINALLY gotten away from it. However the memory of the destruction is with me 24/7 and beginning to burn the evidence is a release for me. I have always known that they still burn witches in this century...they just do it on paper. As I stirred the coals I cursed the people who tortured me. I saw them lose their jobs, their homes and their freedom. Just like they did to me, so it is done to them.

DISCLAIMER

Blogroll Me!
I am still moving into my new place. But things are dirty...So today I found my Great Grandmother Patton's Quilt. I washed it on gentle in my new washing machine and then hung it out on my clothesline to dry. I crossed my fingers cause I didn't know any other way. And I really want to put this quilt in a display case....but it needs to be clean.

It was brought to me up at least 88 steps at (The Cochran Mansion In Newark Ohio) by my Grandma Joy (Daughter of Helen Patton). She was late in her years bringing this quilt to me. She pointed out the dresses she wore to school every other day and her sister Charlott's dresses as well, that ended up in that quilt in the star formations.

I think I might have stopped traffic a few times in my neighborhood today by hanging that quilt out like a flag on my clothesline. It is just stunning....even in the 21st century. I cherish every memory I have of my great grandmother and grandmother and all my ancestors. If my grandmother caused a wreck because of the beauty of her quilt...I would only say...get off your cell phone and practice driving. It is not her fault that you are multi-tasking!

Blogroll Me!
I recently took out a Craig's list ad to pet sit for folks who need to go on vacations. It is something that I have always done, and I am good at, but have never thought to advertise. Please feel free to contact me for more details. It is something I love to do for people and I love to meet new pet friends. I have sat for horses, burros, roosters, chickens, ducks dogs, cats, pigeons, fish and one time a tarantula.
I bring in the mail and water the plants in addition to cleaning litter boxes and daily feeding. It is a good gig if you can get it!

Late Blog

Blogroll Me!
I spent most of the day setting up my basement workshop. I am concerned that it be a dry place. I am putting everything up on bricks as I believe the gutters are not working properly. Soon I will install rain barrels at each of my gutters and I won't worry about my machines and tools getting wet and rusted.

My First Chicken

Blogroll Me!I cooked my first chicken yesterday. I have no less than 8 cats that show up every morning for breakfast. They have feasted off the giblets for the last few days. I am eating less meat these days, but I can't expect my 4 legged friends to follow suit. I met the neighbors finally and they sell free range chicken eggs. I am looking forward to trying them tomorrow morning for breakfast. I have a big day of moving large things and I plan on feeding my help WELL!

Black Or Brown Eyed Susan's

Blogroll Me!
These are so pretty and I am getting some of the seeds for my own yard. I can never remember if they are called Black Eyed Susan's or Brown Eyed Susan's.

Survival Plus

Blogroll Me!
I have been following a blog called Of Two Minds by Charles Hugh Smith. His approach to the diminishing resources on this planet is a little different than most survivalist's.
Surprisingly the Columbus library system does not have a copy of his book, so I ordered it inter library loan. One of Columbus library system's best kept secrets is that they usually order a copy of any book they have to borrow....which is one of the reasons that Columbus Metropolitan Library is #1 in the nation. I will let you know how this book turns out. I am sure it won't be pretty...denial usually isn't. Charles seems to be a stickler for the truth...which is very refreshing. He isn't trying to sell any survivalist gear or doctrine. I don't have long to read it, and I am still moving. But I plan to be a survivor in the upcoming double dip depression, rather than a victim to bad media information. In the meantime check out www.oftwominds.com. Maybe your library system could use a copy of Mr Smith's book as well. Do order it inter library loan today!

Rare Earth Elements

Blogroll Me!
Yesterday's blog about Whirlpool and Lithium imports touched on the subject of REE's. Here is a YouTube that presents the problem as a threat to national security.

Whirlpool

Blogroll Me!

My girl friend called me this morning and asked me if I heard the news that Whirlpool will be opening a factory in Tennessee. This came as a piggyback story about the minerals that China will refuse to export namely lithium for car batteries. They would make our car batteries and sell us those, but not sell us any lithium to make our own batteries! Ohio is slated to make lithium batteries for electric cars. Unfortunately the US doesn't have any lithium mines. What a pickle we may be in unless we can negotiate this precious element.
